Michael Mantaj (Gawein)

Already during his school days Michael Mantaj began intensive musical education with the Regensburg Domspatzen Choir, where he received his first instruction in singing with Richard Brünner. Studies in singing then followed with Nikolaus Hillebrand and Josef Metternich in Munich.

Besides his concert activities as a Lieder and oratorio singer, the bass is also frequently seen in different productions on the operatic stage, where he has sung the roles of Morales in Bizet's Carmen, Guglielmo in Mozarts Così fan tutte, Guldensack in Werner Egks Zaubergeige and Falke in Johann Strauß' Die Fledermaus.

Michael Mantaj has always devoted himself with particular interest to ensemble singing. Since 2000 he has been a member of the internationally renowned vocal ensemble Die Singphoniker. The six man group has now issued more than 30 CDs and is regularly invited to well-known festivals around the world.

Since January 2008 Michael Mantaj is also a member of the Bavarian Radio Choir.
