Sebastian Holecek (King ARTHUR)

was born in Vienna. Already during his studies at the College of Music in Vienna, he made his first appearances in Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. His first engagement was at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, where he successfully debuted in premières as Figaro, Don Giovanni, Count Homonay in Lehar's The Merry Widow, Papageno and Harlekin in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos.

In 1991, the baritone sang Papageno at the Vienna State Opera, where he was also heard as Harlekin, Brétigny in Puccini's Manon Lescaut, Don Giovanni and Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus.

Numerous guest appearances brought Sebastian Holecek to the Staatsoper Berlin, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Capetown Opera, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Monte Carlo Opera, the Santiago Opera in Chile, Barcelona, the Teatro Regio in Turin and the Staatsoper Stuttgart.

As a concert singer, he has performed at the Vienna Musikverein and in the concert hall. He has also sung the role of Don Giovanni in a television production.

Sebastian Holecek sings roles such as Morald in Wagner's Die Feen and Danilo in The Merry Widow at the Opéra Bastille. He appears as a guest at the Graz Opera and the Staatstheater Kassel and sang the title role in the German first performance of Schnittke's Gesualdo in Saarbrücken, in Luigi Dallapiccola's Il Prigionero at the Vienna Volksoper, Dr. Falke at the Bonn Opera and at the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem Operas and Papageno at the Theater Basel, the Vienna State Opera and the Teatro Zarzuela in Madrid. He has also sung the role of the Heerrufer in Lohengrin at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the role of Barak in Busoni's Turandot at the Amsterdam Opera. Concerts have taken him to New York, Toronto and Vilnius.

Since the 2006-2007 season, Sebastian Holecek has been the principal baritone at the Vienna Volksoper. In the 2008-2009 season he will make his debut as Scarpia and also sing the part of Alfred Koppreiter in Ernst K?enek's Kehraus um St. Stephan at the Bregenz Festival.
