His studies at the College of Music in Munich, at the end of which he attended the master class of Professor Michael Gläser, were followed by international seminars in choral conducting and master courses under such well known conductors as Professor Eric Ericson and Professor Fritz Schieri.

Within the scope of his activities as professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, since 1996 he has taught choir directing in the choral conducting, composition, aural training, music theory, music education and sacred music courses of study. In 1998-1999, and again in 2001-2002, he was entrusted with the representation of the chair for protestant sacred music / choral conducting. In 2004 and 2005, Professor Andreas Herrmann was provisional Director of the Madrigal Choir at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, paying particular attenttion to special projects, such as concert tours to Italy, TV appearances, first performances of new music, and the organisation of programmes featuring old music and original instruments. For 10 years, from 1996-2006, he directed the University Choir and, during this time, was responsible for countless oratorio concerts, opera performances, and a cappella programmes of all musical styles.

International concert tours as choir and oratorio conductor have taken him e.g. to Austria, France, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, Switzerland and the Peoples Republic of China. With numerous choirs, orchestras and ensembles, he is responsible for a wide range of concert activities beyond his engagement with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
