Brian Davis (Lancelot)

The American baritone Brian Davis studied at the Bowling Green College of Music and the Boston Conservatory of Music and first received attention upon becoming a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera auditions.

Since 1999, he has been amongst the leading baritones in North America. He has appeared on the operatic stage in New York, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Montréal, Cincinnati, Salt Lake City, Louisville, Fort Worth, the Wolf Trap, Sarasota, Lake George, Central City, Syracuse and Chautauqua and has also appeared as a guest at the Hong Kong Arts Center. Brian Davis is a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera, where de debuted in 1999 as Melot in Tristan und Isolde under James Levine.

He has also performed together with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Plácido Domingo and Lorin Maazel. His repertoire includes the roles of Don Giovanni, as well as Count Almaviva, Escamillo, Scarpia, Gianni Schicchi and Marcello.

His European debut in Hanover as Iago in Otello at the beginning of the 2006-2007 season was widely viewed as sensational. Brian Davis is a member of the ensemble of the Staatsoper Hannover, where he can be heard in such roles as Escamillo in Carmen, as well as the roles of Pentheus in Heinz Werner Henze's  Die Bassariden, Posa in Don Carlos and Sharpless in Madame Butterfly.
