Der Philharmonische Chor München

THE PHILHARMONIC CHOIR MUNICH

is one of the leading large concert choirs in Germany and the partner choir of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Its repertoire encompasses the entire range of choral music, including demanding cappella literature of all epochs and concertante performances of operas from Mozart, through Verdi, Puccini, Wagner and Strauss, to Schönberg's Moses and Aron and Henze's Bassariden, literature which The Philharmonic Choir cultivates with the same dedication as the many great oratorios and choral-symphonic works. The choir has performed under the direction of such eminent composers and conductors as Gustav Mahler, Hans Pfitzner, Krzystof Penderecki, Rudolf Kempe, Herbert von Karajan, Sergiu Celibidache, Seiji Ozawa, Simone Young, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Mariss Jansons, James Levine and the present general music director of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Christian Thielemann.

Throughout the 110 year history of the ensemble, it has always been under the direction of well qualified specialists in the field of choral music. Since 1996 Andreas Herrmann, Professor of Choral Conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, has been the choir director and artistic director of the Philharmonic Choir Munich.
